Commercial films have copyrights that restrict the manner in which they can be shown. There are two specific issues to consider:

1. There is a clear distinction between “private” versus “public” viewings. If you buy or rent a film or a videotape, you always have permission to show it in your home. However, you are not allowed to show it in a classroom, library or any other public forum without a public performance right.

2. If you are charging an admission (or viewing) fee, it always requires an explicit public performance right.

Terms : SCREENING

500 YEARS LATER is a powerful social statement of unprecedented strength with social implications. There are no major corporate channels for the distribution of this film, so together we are building our own, distribution network that outflanks the corporate model.

PAID EVENTS

Generally, we request that 50-70% (depends on our level of involvement) of the proceeds from the paid screening. You must as a deposit pay $300 US, which will be deducted from the box office. (For DigiBeta there may be additional postage and insurance cost)

FREE EVENTS

If you want to hold a free admission screening or a donation at the door, we ask that you pay a one-time rental fee for permission to screen the video. See our website to purchase $300 insit. usage version (www.halaqah.com/shop)

COST

The standard rental fee is $300.00. For very small non-profit organizations based outside of the “West”, the rental fee is $150.00 (subject to status). This rental fee includes a copy of the video and publicity materials. It however does not include postage and insurance. The fee applies even if you already have purchased the video at the personal use price. The cost of the personal use video purchase does not allow for public screenings.

• Creating versions of the film in other languages.

• Organizing tours to mobilize for upcoming actions and campaigns.

• Creating curriculum materials to accompany educational screenings.

• Making copies available to low-income organizations and community groups.

• Conducting outreach in small towns, local unions, other countries, and other places where people are less likely to know about the film

Renting theatres and/or projectors for screenings

You can also sell tapes at your screening. This is a good way to raise funds for your organization. We can arrange to sell tapes to your organization at a wholesale price, or we can consign them to your organization if you are unable to pay for them in advance.

Always contact us before organizing a screening. In some cases, there may already be a screening planned in your area. If not, we would like to post your screening event on our calendar and website. And we might be able to put you in touch with other organizations in your area that are also interested in helping with screenings.

Your support and understanding in cooperating with our screening guidelines is appreciated. At the same time, we do not want our screening guidelines to discourage any one from screening the film. Please contact us if you have financial concerns about hosting a screening.

RESTRICTIONS
No films associated with Halaqah Media Films are to be associated or performed with the sale of any drug product (alcohol, cannabis, cigarettes). We ask that all screenings be free from the above substances and viewers be restrained from such activities.
